Neckwarmer

The details are a bit fuzzy, but this is keeping me warm and cozy :)

I made it myself!

This is yarn. The part you can see is what I spun myself (there's some Kit-spun yarn underneath), after a lot of struggling and some very pertinent advice from another spinner.

*it's Polworth roving from Greenwood Fiberworks. it is soft and lovely and i'm just so impressed that i made YARN out of WOOL. this is MAGIC.

2 inches in an hour

And I got to drive home in this.  Hooray?

These will be added to an afghan I'm crocheting.  It's my "sit by the fire because it's too cold outside" project, which should be getting a lot of work this week!

It was cold and sunny, and we spent the day with some friends at the Museum of Church History in Salt Lake City.  Morgen drew a picture:

Oh the joys of a shared computer

Crossing my fingers that this restore will clear up the problems and viruses that somebody (who will remain nameless) decided to download to this computer.

Breakfast today was hot cocoa and homemade bread flavored with sage and rosemary.

Bonus: the counter was clean :)

and I totally forgot (just like every year) that today is my anniversary!  So, Happy 17th Anniversary to the love of my life. You get up at 3:30am to go to work, so you can be home with your family in the evenings.  You suggest science fair project ideas to our kids, and happily help them experiment.  You choose to hunt with our kids, and let them take the best shots, even when that means you don't get an elk.  You can fix anything.  You are book smart AND common-sense smart.  You listen to me.

Jared repaired the snowblower last weekend, and last night we got 7 or 8 inches of snow.  Perfect timing! He's trying it out on all the neighbors' driveways as I type.

Morning Routine

Every day before we let out the dogs we need to break the ice over their water bucket.

Oh the weather outside is frightful

and there are lots of beautiful ice crystals on every surface.  Thank goodness for snowplows and salt.

fiber

and it isn't for me!

from left to right:
alpaca, acrylic, angora (on top), 80% bamboo/20% wool (on bottom), bamboo ribbon, cashmere, cotton, hemp (on top), linen (on bottom), silk (on top), and wool (on bottom).  All these are 100% of whichever fiber (excluding the wool/bamboo blend).  Morgen is doing a science fair project on the tensile strength of different fibers after they're exposed to extremely cold temperatures.  And I'm pretty excited about this because I can help! I know fiber!!  Plus she won't need the entire skein of each fiber- just 15 yards or so- and I'll just have to find something to do with the rest of the yarn. I hope I'm up for the challenge...
